Why Return Your Mail-in Ballot Early
Returning your mail-in ballot early helps make sure your vote is counted. Recent changes to the U.S. Postal Service mean that the postmark on mailed ballots may be delayed, so sending your ballot close to Election Day could risk it being postmarked too late. In California, ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day (2 June 2026) and received by your county elections office no later than 10 June 2026. To avoid any problems, Alameda voters are encouraged to mail their completed ballots at least a week before the election (25 May 2026) or use an official ballot drop box or vote center before 8 p.m. on Election Day.
